  • U.S. alcohol statistics and alcohol related statistics reveal that approximately 50,000 cases of alcohol overdose are reported each year, and roughly 52 times per year, once every week, someone needlessly loses his or her life due to this preventable condition. What is especially sad about alcohol related statistics such as these is that alcohol poisoning and alcohol overdose fatalities are 100% preventable.
  • A 150-pound man would have to drink approximately 18 beverage units (one unit consists of 5 oz. of wine or one and a half ounces of spirits) in about a hour in order to reach the lethal blood alcohol concentration which is approximately 0.4%.
  • According to a study that was conducted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, heavy drinking by college students is prevalent and, among some students, quite frequent; more than 80% of college students reported consuming alcohol in the past year, with more than 40% reporting at least one episode of binge drinking in the previous 2 weeks.
